The versatility of the pentatonic scale allows it to be harmonically applied to multiple chord types. This can be achieved through a process called displacement. Displacement occurs when the scale is referenced from an interval other than the root of a chord. This page will discuss the different rules for displacement using the 1st position of a C pentatonic scale scale (illustrated below).
